Pinellas Teacher Union recently issued the following announcement.
TOGETHER WE STAND RALLY
This rally on January 25, 2022 is to raise awareness to the public about the legislature’s Teacher Salary Allocation law that divides teachers by specifying that new teachers receive a higher salary increase than veteran teachers who have been teaching for more than 12 years. The education support professionals in our schools have been totally ignored by the legislature as far as salary allocation.
The members of our community are interested in having experienced teachers in front of their children in the classroom, and they understand the benefit of having experienced teachers guiding the practices of our newer teachers who bring vitality to the classroom. Veteran teachers are integral to the training of new teachers, guiding them through the creation of engaging lessons, providing tips on classroom management, and sharing the nuances that create great educators.
Research has shown that a teacher has not reached peak performance until their 7th year of classroom experience, and veteran teachers help pave the way to that success.
Education support professionals provide the assistance in the classrooms that make it possible for all teachers to perform the miracles they do every day. They are crucial to the success we see in our schools.
This is NOT an attack on the Pinellas County School Board, but we are hoping that public comment on this divisive, unconstitutional law will encourage the Board to stand up for true equity in pay for all educators.
Invite your friends, family, and neighbors to stand with teachers at this rally on January 25 at 3:30pm at 4th Street and West Bay Drive, right down the block from the School Board Administration Building. When you stand with Educators, you are standing for the children of Pinellas County.
