BARRY UNIVERSITY: COVID-19 protocols for Spring 2021 Return

Coviddddd

Barry University issued the following announcement.

In preparation for another successful and productive semester, we have updated protocols for returning to campuses and locations after break. The measures below are reflective of current conditions and a careful analysis of the optimal steps for promoting health and safety at all locations, given an anticipated increase in options for in-person courses and activity this upcoming semester.

COVID-19 TESTING FOR RETURNING TO ANY LOCATION

It is the expectation that individuals in the following categories will have a COVID-19 test 2-3 days BEFORE returning to a Barry campus or location for in-person activity:

  • All residential students.
  • Anyone who traveled over the break domestically or internationally, utilizing any form of public transportation, if travels take place less than 14 days prior to returning to a Barry location. All travelers should also refer to CDC guidance.
  • Anyone who attended a gathering of any size with individuals outside of their quarantine “bubble” if gatherings take place less than 14 days prior to returning to a Barry location. Note that this includes gatherings with immediate family members if you are not currently residing with them during the pandemic.
The above individuals should also have a follow-up COVID-19 test 5 days AFTER travel. Should either test come back positive, individuals must follow isolation protocols and complete a COVID-19 initial notification form. CDC guidance is available here.

Student Health Services will resume testing for students, faculty and staff on January 6, 2021, by appointment.

Refer to our FAQ’s for additional guidance on testing.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR ANYONE WHO TRAVELS

Anyone who returns from travel should stay home (or in their residential space) to the extent possible and avoid contact with people at higher risk for severe illness. This should continue for 10 days AFTER traveling. If a COVID-19 test is negative on day 5 after travel, the quarantine period may be shortened from 10 days to 7 days.

RESIDENTIAL VISITATION & ON-CAMPUS DINING

For the first two weeks of the Spring 2021 semester, no guests will be permitted in the residence halls and students will only be permitted in the hall and room they are assigned to. There is to be no visiting between rooms and residence halls.

Additionally, all on-campus dining will be grab and go, with no dine-in options.

The above measures are designed to limit potential spread of infection after holiday travel and gatherings. It is not the intention to operate with these visitation and dining restrictions in place the entire semester. Following the two-week period, we will assess the situation and communicate any changes at that time.

UNIVERSITY SERVICES AND AMENITIES

All University services will resume after the break, with hours and delivery methods for services to be updated on the Back to Barry site ahead of the start of the semester. Amenities, such as the pool and fitness center will be available after break, with the expectation that students, faculty and staff who traveled utilizing public transportation will adhere to the quarantine guidelines outlined above.

Please continue to Take the Lead in promoting health and well-being within our Barry community and for your friends and families. Refer to the CDC guidance regarding celebrations.

Have a safe and restful break and we look forward to an exciting Spring 2021 semester together!
