UNIVERSITY OF WEST FLORIDA: UWF to provide virtual peer support for students in isolation or quarantine

Zoooom

University of West Florida issued the following announcement.

The University of West Florida’s Counseling and Psychological Services will provide virtual Quarantine and Isolation Peer Support Drop-In sessions twice weekly for students in isolation or quarantine due to possible exposure to COVID-19. Students will be able to access the support session through Zoom.

“CAPS understands that isolation and quarantine can be very tough, and social isolation can take a toll on well-being,” said Dr. Michele Mannasah, executive director for counseling and health services. “We invite students in quarantine or isolation to come together with peers to share experiences and gain support.”

The goal of the session is to provide an opportunity to share reactions and support with others who have also been isolated due to COVID-19. It is not therapy or counseling, although those services are still available. Students seeking help during this time can access counselors with Counseling and Psychological Services 24/7 by calling 850.474.2420 and following the prompts. Anyone experiencing a life-threatening emergency is urged to call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
