Sheriff Bob Gualtieri was sworn in as President of the Major County Sheriffs of America (MCSA) during the opening ceremonies of the 2026 MCSA Policy Conference in Washington, DC. The ceremony took place on February 5, 2026, with Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) administering the oath of office and delivering brief remarks. Senator Scott previously appointed Gualtieri as Sheriff of Pinellas County in 2011 when he served as Governor of Florida.
“I am honored by my colleagues who have faith in me to lead the Major County Sheriffs of America for the next two years,” said Sheriff Bob Gualtieri. “Law enforcement faces an unprecedented number of challenges and MCSA is well-positioned to make an impact through its advocacy, policy priorities, and expertise of its member sheriffs. I look forward to working with our fellow public safety associations as well as our federal, state, tribal, and local partners to lead the way for a safer America.”
The MCSA is an association that includes sheriff’s offices from counties or parishes with populations over 400,000. Its membership represents more than 120 million citizens across the United States. The organization focuses on maintaining integrity within law enforcement and supporting elected sheriffs.
Other executive board members installed at the event include Sheriff Bill Waybourn from Tarrant County, Texas as Vice President; Sheriff Don Barnes from Orange County, California as Vice President of Homeland Security; Sheriff John Mina from Orange County, Florida as Vice President of Government Affairs; Sheriff Leon Lott from Richland County, South Carolina as Secretary; and Sheriff Tommie Johnson III from Oklahoma County, Oklahoma as Treasurer.
